Nova and her husband got married in May 2018 and had their first daughter in 2019. They tried for their second in May of 2021 and found out they lost the pregnancy at what was supposed to be 6 weeks and 3 days. They had just told their almost two year old she was going to be a big sister and were surprised by how affected they were even though the loss was early. They got pregnant quickly after and had their rainbow baby boy in 2022. One year later they got pregnant with their third child and had her in 2023.
In May of 2024 Nova got pregnant with her fourth baby. Announcing her pregnancy to her husband was the most fun she had so far as she dressed her youngest in a “big sister” t-shirt and had her hand the test to her husband. The HCG or pregnancy hormone numbers weren’t perfect from the beginning and although they were worried, a heartbeat was confirmed at 7 weeks and 2 days. From then on they told their other children and family and found out baby was a girl. They even did a gender reveal cake since they’d never done that before and wanted to do something fun for their last baby. Nova went to her 10 week scan alone and found out the baby no longer had a heartbeat. After a devastating week of waiting she miscarried naturally in a scary and public fashion. They named her baby girl Evangeline. She wasn’t sure she wanted to try again but her husband has always said he knew they’d have a fourth so they tried again amidst the heavy grief. Nova got pregnant with her second rainbow baby in September 2025 and had her rainbow baby in June 2026.
She hesitated on participating in this project because pregnancy loss and the grief that comes with it is still so stigmatized and she did not feel universally supported or understood following her second loss. With the help of so many individuals including her husband, an acupuncturist, several chiropractors, two therapists, a doula, a midwife and many friends she was able to find the light. Ultimately the importance of letting other families know the are not alone outweighed her concerns and she wants to pass on a message to every family who has been through this or may go through it in the future. You all deserve love, endless grace and unconditional support and your babies matter no matter how long they were with you. Keep going and you will find the light. She is so grateful to have the opportunity to share her story.
