Kailee’s Story

My husband and I got married on October 15th, 2022 a month later we found out we were expecting our first child. Children had always been part of our plan so we were beyond excited. The first part of our pregnancy went smoothly, however our daughter Addison was always a little small.

Around 25 weeks I started feeling a lot of pain which I attributed to heartburn, however at a checkup at 27 weeks my blood pressure was high and I had a migraine. From that appointment I was sent directly to the hospital with preeclampsia diagnosis. This began the toughest week in our lives. Because my health was failing quickly the doctors made the decision that Addison needed to be born within 48 hours.

Two days later on April 19th at 1:06pm Addison Lee Cooper made her way into the world. At 1 lb and 11 in long we were scared but hopeful. On April 20th at 8pm I finally got to see her for the first time. Unfortunately, on April 21st her tiny body just couldn’t support her. While holding her with family surrounding us we spent her final moments telling her we loved her. Leaving the hospital without a baby is a moment that I hope most people never experience.

We spent the next weeks/months recovering and grieving Addison, and what our lives were supposed to be. But we also learned to celebrate her. We held a celebration of life and each month take time on her birthday to just remember.

On September 22nd, 2023 we found out that we were expecting our rainbow. Some days are still tough knowing what could have been, but we know that Addison is excited to be a big sister. Her sibling will always know of her and her legacy.
