My husband, Noah, and I decided to start trying to conceive in summer of 2022. Due to my PCOS and previous miscarriage, we were concerned we would struggle to conceive. We tried for 6 months before returning to the doctor to learn that I was not ovulating consistently. We eventually were recommended to do 6 medicated cycles before consulting with a fertility clinic. We had 5 unsuccessful cycles and prepared to go to the fertility clinic but we were surprised to get a positive test in our sixth and final cycle. We waited weeks before our ultrasound and began preparing for our future baby. At our ultrasound between week 8 and 9, we learned that not only did we have one gestational sac, but two. We had learned the gender to be girls. Unfortunately, they were measuring behind and we would subsequently lose them. We were devastated and grieved their loss. We named our little girls Ruby and Opal. We miss them every day.
After consulting the fertility specialist and several invasive tests, I had a hysteroscopy surgery. We planned to begin fertility treatments again in September and began to start planning timelines. To our surprise, on August 2, we got a positive pregnancy test. We continued working with our clinic and had our first ultrasound in week 6. We were blessed to see a healthy embryo with a heartbeat. Our first ultrasound happened to fall on National Rainbow Baby Day. We had weekly ultrasounds through week 10. Every week, our baby exceeded their expectations. Hearing our baby’s heartbeat for the first time in week 7 was magical. We couldn’t believe we were finally having our rainbow baby.
In my 35th week of pregnancy I was diagnosed with gestational hypertension and we prayed I could make it until 37 weeks. We were scheduled for an induction on March 26th. After nearly 36 hours of failure to progress, our rainbow baby, Violet Alea Weiss, was born March 28th, 2025 in the morning via cesarean
Unfortunately, due to respiratory distress, she was admitted into the NICU and began on CPAP, followed by high flow oxygen. She spent her first days in the NICU and eventually released with mama. At her first pediatrician appointment, they discovered her levels for jaundice required additional treatment and she was readmitted to the NICU. She finally came home and has stayed home since. We love our little rainbow that we braved a storm to bring home.
We love you our little princess Violet Alea!
