Destiny B’s Story

My partner and I met late in 2021, and began dating in 2022. About a year later, we found out we were pregnant. Shocking, to say the least because we were not even trying, but nonetheless we were both excited! We had already previously talked about wanting at least 2 children. We wanted to keep the gender a secret but with so much pressure, since this was our first child, to get everything needed, we decided on the morning of our Anatomy scan to flip a coin!  That day we found out we were having a baby girl! We were over the moon! The scan did not go as hoped, and there were some things that were not seen and we were advised to come back in 4 weeks for a follow up.

At the 4 week follow up, there were still things not seen— in addition to noticing there was less of what was seen on the previous scan. I was admitted to L&D for observation, where we found out some very scary news. Our baby girl was growth restricted and rated to be in the 1st percent. We were both scared and heartbroken because she needed more time! We needed more time! We were discharged the next day with a plan to see MFM 2 times weekly for observation, starting 2 days from my discharge charge. I was uneasy but hopeful we had an excellent plan in place.

At the first observation appointment, there was no change. I was told this was good, as things had not gotten worse.  At my next appointment, the first appt I ever had to go to alone, our world was turned upside down. I was immediately rushed back to L&D to be prepped for a c-section. We were having our baby girl that day.

Raelynn Denise was born at just 24w6d, due to placental insufficiency and IUGR. She fought so hard for 2 days but her tiny heart and lungs could not keep up.  We have been waiting for the right time to try again and were very surprised when we found out we were pregnant with our Rainbow baby, 11/29.  Seeing all the strong moms participate in this has been truly inspirational and given me so much hope for this blessing to come! I did not get to take maternity photos with Raelynn, and look forward to having a Rainbow themed shoot for this baby!!
