On July 13th 2021, my world as I knew it changed forever. My sweet daughter was born still at only 21 weeks and 5 days gestation.
My pregnancy was anything but normal. Shortly after I got my positive pregnancy test I started bleeding. I figured it was a miscarriage. But the bleeding continued so I made an appointment with the OBGYN. I was told I was still pregnant and at 10 weeks got a confirmation ultrasound. Baby was healthy and had a good heart beat. But then the bleeding started again.
At 14 weeks the ultrasound showed I had low amniotic fluid. I was sent to a high risk doctor to be looked at.
At 19 weeks gestation the high risk doctors told me it appeared that I was leaking amniotic from somewhere but they weren’t entirely sure from were. They gave my daughter a 50% chance of making it to full term and I was told to consider terminating the pregnancy. I made the decision to continue to carry her and pray that she fought to the end.
Just two weeks later my water broke and I rushed to labor and delivery. They were able to stop labor and kept me there on bed rest. However just a few days later I developed an infection in my uterus and was told they would have to induce me. They started my induction at 830pm on July 12th and at 12:15 am on July 13th 2021 my daughter was born. The doctor confirmed immediately that she had passed away during my labor.
Athena Sayge was born into this world sleeping peacefully with the angels. I was scared I would never be able to get pregnant again because of the infection I had in my uterus. Two years later I found out I was pregnant again. The high risk doctors told me finally the reason I lost my daughter was due to incompetent cervix. I was terrified and didn’t want to tell anyone. They watched me closely and put me on progesterone until I was 36 weeks along.
At 38 weeks and 5 days on January 30th 2024 I welcomed my rainbow baby. My beautiful baby boy.
