My husband, Darrin, and I have been married for six years and have been together for eight. Shortly after we got married, we started trying to have a baby. After about two years of trying, I started to think something might be wrong.
We went to a fertility clinic and completed all the testing. We were told that everything looked great, and they encouraged us to keep trying.
In May 2022, my husband’s mom passed away. We decided to stop trying for a while. Then, one day, I felt so sick and thought, Could this be it? We found out we were pregnant, and we were so excited. Unfortunately, a few weeks later, I miscarried. Of course, the doctors said, “Things like this happen,” but we were left without any explanation.
In March 2023, I lost my best friend, Caleb. Shortly afterward, I found out I was pregnant again on May 18, 2023. Sadly, that pregnancy also ended in miscarriage.
We went through a full fertility workup and discovered that I have Factor 2 blood-clotting disorder and an MTHFR gene mutation.
In February 2025, we became pregnant with a little girl. At only four weeks pregnant, I had to undergo emergency gallbladder surgery. I was so scared, especially because I was taking Lovenox injections, which made the situation feel even more high-risk.
When I woke up from anesthesia, I told my husband, my mother, and my sister that I had seen my sister, who passed away in 2006, during the surgery. I told them she had said I needed to stay strong for my baby girl who was on the way.
Everything seemed to be going great. We went in for an ultrasound at six weeks and two days, and her heart rate was 93. They wanted me to come back a week later to make sure her heart rate had increased before releasing me to my OB.
When we returned, the room became quiet, and the ultrasound technician wouldn’t say anything. I knew something was wrong by the look on her face. I never thought I would hear the words, “There’s no heartbeat.”
We chose to have genetic testing done. My heart shattered when they called and told us that our baby was a little girl. We chose to name her TexLynn Marie, after my mom and my husband’s mom.
The Children’s Mercy research group eventually gave us some answers. We learned that my husband has three genetic disorders. This was absolutely heartbreaking news.
We decided to move forward with IUI using a donor. After three attempts, we became pregnant again, but sadly, that pregnancy also ended in miscarriage.
We then chose to move forward with IVF. To help cover the overwhelming expenses that come with IVF, we started selling puzzle pieces as a fundraiser.
We traveled to Syracuse, New York, for my egg retrieval on January 29, 2026. In April 2026, we transferred an embryo, but unfortunately, the transfer was unsuccessful.
We are not giving up. However, we are taking a break because this journey has been mentally, physically, and emotionally exhausting.
My heart goes out to every individual and family experiencing infertility and pregnancy loss. It is a journey no one should ever have to walk, and I hope that one day, every family receives the miracle they have been praying for.
