We were married in December of 2021. We were expecting our baby (first grandchild on both sides) due June 2023. However, in November, I started to bleed. Trapped at home during a blizzard, we waited almost 36 hours before making the trek to the ER across town. The ER gave me my first ultrasound where we saw baby’s heartbeat and then diagnosed me with a threatened miscarriage. I was sent home to wait the 3 days until my 8 week OB appt.

At the appt, no heartbeat was found. Our baby was gone. I gave birth to our little Pio on November 18, 2022. The process of 48 hours of labor to birth him, the planning of a burial, it’s all blur. We were devastated, but told “it just happens, it probably wont happen again.”

We found out we were expecting again in August 2023. We monitored much more closely, and were given poor news from the beginning when HCG levels did not rise appropriately. Around my 8 week appointment, there was concerns from imaging that the pregnancy was ectopic. I was rushed to OR, only to discover I had an ovarian cyst that had ruptured (fluid on imaging) and was having a miscarriage at the same time.

I had a cervical sweep done (which progressed me through the miscarriage) but did not pass baby until a few days later. Zelie was born on September 8, 2023. How could the Lord take our rainbow baby? We trusted Him to care for our family.

We then began pursuing a reason. We did testing for what seemed a million things that were not wrong with me. I got the all clear from MFM in November, but it did not feel right. We pursued a specialist 3 states away which has resulted in 3 surgeries, treatment for severe endometriosis on many different abdominal organs, ovarian wedge resection, and much more. It has been a long, hard journey.

We are now 34 weeks with our double rainbow, cautiously expecting in September 2025.
